Glasgow is famous for its ironwork, but one tends to think of this mainly in terms of the period from the Jamaica Street warehouse onwards, and especially of Macfarlane’s Saracen Foundry. This talk will concentrate on the earlier period and, after a nod to the zinc buildings of Edinburgh, will look at the iron buildings exported from Glasgow to Australia and elsewhere, of which many illustrations and some interesting examples survive.
