3D Digital Documentation Bursary Placement

Historic Scotland seeks an enthusiastic team player to join our dynamic 3D Digital Documentation team. The successful recipient of the HLF bursary will be given training in the use of 3D laser scanners and GPS surveying equipment and official Leica Cyclone 3D software training.

The training bursary placement would be expected to cover:

  • Methodology of 3D digital documentation projects – Laser scanning, GPS and photogrammetry.
  • Setting up and using surveying equipment for 3D projects.
  • Understanding, storing and archiving digital data.
  • Working as part of a team to complete projects to deadlines.
  • Using digital cameras to record architectural and archaeological sites


The placement will follow a flexible training plan created between Historic Scotland and the bursary holder. The placement may also include relevant training courses or site visits to other organisations as agreed with Historic Scotland. The bursary holder will be expected to create a short report each
